We all know that the packing process is one that every mover dreads. The event of moving has got your excitement shooting through the roof but let’s just say the thought of packing and unpacking doesn’t have you jumping with joy. If you are a mover who likes the packing process, well, kudos to you, maybe you can rub off on everybody else. These tips and considerations can make your packing process easier, faster, and more efficient; leaving you more time to be enthusiastic about your actual new home and new community.
Use the right box technique:
Pack heavy items in smaller boxes and lighter items in bigger boxes so that way it’s easier on the movers (and you) to lift
Don’t leave any spaces empty: pack the spaces with towels, clothes, rags etc.
A little common sense goes a long way by packing heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on the top
Categorize and label boxes according to the room the items belong in that way it’s easier to unpack in the end
Pack the items you will need first in a clear plastic bin for easy access
You might even want to consider color coding your boxes
If you’re moving expensive art ask about special crating or wrap the art in paper or bubble wrap with cardboard in between
Wrap your breakable dishes and glasses in clothing and in clean socks for extra padding
Pack your plates vertically, like records, to lessen the possibility of them breaking
Toiletries and Accessories
Saran wrap the opening of your toiletries like lotions, gels, and other liquids, then put the caps back on so nothing spills
Press’n Seal is great for keeping your jewelry displays intact
Keep sandwich bags handy to hold small hardware for your curtain rods, appliances, and tv mounts
It is recommended to take a picture of your electronics (back of your TV) so you can remember where all of the wires go
Vacuum seal all of your out-of-season clothing to save much needed space
Other useful tips…
Make your last grocery shopping trip two weeks prior to moving to reduce the amount of waste
When the time comes, remember to defrost your fridge a day before moving
Changing your address at least two weeks before moving will save you the hectic headache of doing it all once you have move
