San Antonio, located in the south-central region of Texas (also known as the Texas Triangle) was voted the fastest growing city of the top 10 largest cities in the US from 2000-2010 and more than doubling in population for the last 35 years. Spurs city has been busy growing and evolving—embracing tradition and innovation along the way.

What does San Antonio have to offer?

26 million tourists visit the River City every year, attracted by the historical River walk, neighborhoods, Alamo, Missions, and museums. Residents and tourists alike can partake in a wide range of activities in family friendly places, artist communities, and amusement parks. Families have options to walk along the River Walk, feed the animals at the San Antonio Zoo or Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, ride roller coasters at Six Flags, or visit the newly built Do-seum designed for hands-on learning experience for the kids. Morgan’s Wonderland is also one of the most popular attractions it being the first amusement park with access for all kinds of abilities and ages. Each district of San Antonio offers a different vibe with various activities to do that are enjoyable for any age.

What is there to do behind the scenes?

Locals are excited about the recent refurbishing of the city with new hangouts exhibiting a blend of historical and urban fusion. Revamping of the city has perked the interest of the younger generation, artists, and explorers alike. San Antonio has brought an ‘art frenzy movement’ into existence with artistic expressions popping up in the south town district, King William’s district, and other hotspots throughout the city. Areas such as The Pearl Brewery, Blue Star Complex, and Phillips Building have been renovated into hip coffee shops, restaurants, venues, and hotels. Events like First Friday, record shows, Book Fairs, and the Maverick Music Festival have successfully supported the rapidly growing art movement scene in the community. Colleges and universities such as The University of Texas, St. Mary’s College, and University of the Incarnate Word house a large portion of the city’s younger crowd.

What are locals saying?

Southern hospitality is used to describe a particularly warm, sweet, and welcoming demeanor. San Antonio locals believe in southern hospitality and represent the ‘feeling of home no matter where you go.’ Thomas McBryde of Literati Café, who grew Image titleup in San Antonio, says that he’s tried to leave multiple times but there’s something that always draws him back. He enjoys the big city little town vibe that San Antonio brings with an enriched sense of culture everywhere. Anna-Marie Lopez, local olive oil bottler, likes the affordability of San Antonio; comparing the price of her home to her former tiny apartment in New York.

Lastly, I think everyone can agree with Rick the bee keeper, who when I asked his favorite thing about San Antonio, he shouted while rubbing his belly,

     “THE TAMALES!
