First Impressions

First Impressions

The first impression of your home is always made by the buyer in less than a minute upon arrival. The look of your houses curb appeal from the outside is what will either draw buyers in or instantly turn them away; it could mean the difference between no viewings or ten viewings. The main key is to take a psychology perspective by thinking like a buyer when viewing your home. If you were a buyer, how could you alter your home to appeal to a new-comer’s impressions? Here are some tips to help you achieve that attention your home deserves: Image title

The Exterior of Your Home:

  • Power wash the outside of your home including  sidewalks and patios

  • Dress up all of the windows in your house with the same color drapes so it looks uniform and organized from the outside

  • Wash your windows for the appearance of cleanliness, care, and effort for your home

  • Clean out all of your gutters

  • A fresh coat of paint can go a long way in updating your home

The Front Door:

  • A fresh coat of paint on your door never hurt anyone and can add instant value

  • Repair all chipped paint for a fresh look

  • Have your house number large and clearly visible

  • You can possibly add new porch lights with a brighter wattage to add emphasis

  • Add a new welcoming door mat

  • Consider adding some potted plants in the entryway

Shape Up your Yard:

  • Be sure your house can be seen from every direction in your yard, trim all bushes that may be blocking your view

  • Get your yard in shape for the spring season and the buying season by clearing winter debris, raking leaves, and trimming all of the dead brown remains from your existing plants

  • Pay attention to your flower beds and plant some seasonal flowers to add a splash of color and interest to your yard

  • Some thriving flowers for the spring time in this Texas heat are:

    • Lantana Plants (pictured): they do well in places where most other plants won’t grow and Southerners love their vibe!

    • Zinnia Plants: Native to southern climates these flowers are sure to brighten up your Texas garden

    • Lavender Plants: Leaving an aroma of lavender, this plant will greet your guests with relax and peace

 Highlight your outdoor areas

  • Play up your patio or outdoor conversation areas by adding décor and seating

  • Having an area for seating makes your space more inviting and give a homey feel

If you can accomplish a great first impression by the curb appeal of your home—potential buyers will want to see what is on the INSIDE!
