Be The Talk Of The Block

Be The Talk Of The Block

The essentials you need to know for a successful spring/summer cleaning garage sale

  1. Obviously start out by gathering together all of your clutter, preferably stashing it year-round so that you have a nice-sized stack, but if you’re just trying to de-clutter for spring/summer that’s perfectly fine too!

  2. Organize and have a plan! Take a week or 2 week in advance time frame to iron out all the details and then of course 2-3 days before the actual garage/yard sale take the time to price every item.

    • This includes cleaning every item, keep your yard sale classy by raising up to that standard, people won’t even want to touch your items, let alone buy them if they are still filthy.Image title

    • Make sure that the price tags are visible and on the top of the item where the buyer can easily locate it

  3. Recruit some of your friends and family to help you with the yard sale. Assign everybody to do various tasks, in an organized manner of course

  4. Advertise! Perhaps one of the most important aspects of your yard sales’ success is spreading the word about it. It wouldn’t be of any use to hold a yard sale if you didn’t tell anyone about it, now would it?

    • You can use advertisements in a number of ways, for example: create an ad online on your local community based website like Craigslist. You can also make an event on facebook to invite all of your friends on their as well. The more people you invite= the more items you sell Image titlewhich means more profit!

    • If your newspaper ad costs are on the cheap side you might invest in running an ad in the local paper, those that still do read the paper will be able to view your yard sale event

    • Of course, the most common form of advertising is making posters and signs to post up in the neighborhood. If this is a method you’re going to do make sure you write all of the details boldly, big, and most important legibly.

    • You can also post flyers at your local coffee shop, library, or any other place that has a public corkboard/community board to post on

  5. Timing and Location is everything! IF you’re having your yard sale during the summer or spring months try to plan for an early start in order to refrain from that blazing hot weather.

    • Find out what is the best day of the week for your yard sale to happen

    • If your location doesn’t generally see heavy traffic maybe you should consider holding your sale at a friend or family’s house who’s neighborhood would be more popular

  6. Don’t be too shy to create an ambiance

    • Conduct your yard sale like it’s your very own small business, which, duh it is.

    • Image titlePlay some soothing, or classic music in the background to drown out that awkward buyer silence.

    • Make your yard sale a lively place to come with not only music but also maybe sweet treats and some lemonade! You can even make some extra cash by doing that

  7. Good luck!
